ICSI is one of the advanced assisted fertilization methods, where healthy sperm is obtained from the husband’s semen sample in a very fine glass needle, and injected directly into the center of the wife’s egg, and then the fertilized egg is transferred to the woman’s uterus.
The ICSI process bypasses, God willing, any pathological barriers that prevented fertilization and spontaneous pregnancy, whether in the husband or wife or both.

1- Oocyte stimulation and ovulation follow-up
After examining the level of hormones, the treatment plan is developed based on the vision of the gynecologist treating the wife’s condition, and the process of stimulating ovulation begins to obtain mature eggs sufficient for ICSI.
This process takes one to two weeks before the second step of ICSI begins.
Mature eggs are extracted after 34-47 hours of maturity using a laparoscope, or by pulling them through an ultrasound-guided needle, and mature eggs are extracted for ICSI to be placed in the Riyadh Fertility Center laboratory for follow-up.
A semen sample is taken from the pair to collect sperm and injected directly into the mature eggs.
Sometimes we resort to testicular surgery using a surgical microscope to obtain a semen sample, in case of a blockage or problem that prevents sperm ejaculation.
Doctors at Riyadh Fertility Center also recommend a test to examine the semen sample in the male laboratories before starting the steps of the ICSI process.
First, we separate the live sperm from the dead sperm, then the embryologist injects the healthy sperm directly into the mature egg and then examines the egg to ensure that fertilization has occurred and cell divisions and development are followed.
After the fertilized eggs are placed in incubation, they are left for 3-4 days, and then the successfully fertilized eggs are selected to return one or more in the wife’s uterus to complete the pregnancy.
Finally, after completing all the stages, the waiting period begins for 14 days, during which the wife follows the instructions and advice of the attending physician with a commitment to rest, before taking a digital pregnancy test to see if there is a pregnancy or not.
